Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Today was the first time I've been in Georgia for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and it was wonderful. I already knew from Veterans Day that Savannah takes its parades seriously. Everybody in the parade was super friendly, wishing me a good morning as I waved.

Attempting to capture the motion of one of the drum majors and a dance team member.

I stood on MLK, Jr. Blvd before the parade began.

A concept for a civil rights campaign.

Sketching at the Zoo

Braelyn Snow-Zoo Sketches
My holiday season included a trip to the zoo. Christmas lights surrounded the habitats, giving the crisp winter day a cozy and cheerful atmosphere. Many of the animals were tucked away for the night or the season, but I managed to sketch a few. The best part about drawing in public places is when I get compliments from children who sneak a peek at my work. I love to hear proud parents tell me how well their kids can draw. I hope these brief conversations encourage kids to keep doing the things they love, whether professionally or as a hobby.

The Controversial Babe

Jesus, the peaceful baby Christmas commemorates, has been a source of conflict over millennia. He is called the Prince of Peace, yet people still argue about him and his teachings. He once said, "do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword", yet he also said to his followers, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid". He knew that the things he said would stir up trouble and division (a sword), but he promised impossible peace to those who believed him and obeyed his words. Whether one celebrates Christmas or believes in the one at the heart of the holiday, the tiny babe deserves attention because of the truth-claims he later made; calling himself "The Way" was and is shocking. Whether one loves or hates him, it's difficult to ignore him.
